You open your eyes after running through the door of light, your legs tired from all of the physical strain you've put on them. Your eyes adjust to the brightness of the outdoors after being locked in a dark room for so long, and you find yourself in a medieval city that goes on for miles into the horizon. You will wander through the streets, taking note of how desolate the city is. There are no people here, yet everything looks well-kept. There are no signs of overgrowth or age on any of the buildings. This is the Dead City, but don't let the name and atmosphere fool you: You are not alone here, for this is the home of the Takers. E6T
The Takers are small, emaciated, child-like creatures that hunt in packs. They have large, spherical heads with two bulbous eyes and a mouth that is twisted into a wide, sharp-toothed smile. They usually hunt in large packs, and will typically hide in the darkness of alleyways and the inside of buildings, stalking their victims as they traverse the Dead City. Once a certain threshold of distance has passed, they will one-by-one begin to step out of alleyways that neighbor each-other, holding out their hands and staring into the victims' eyes. Should you so much as glance in the Takers' direction at any point, you will be overcome with a desire to give to them, regardless of whether or not you view them as ugly or horrifying. As you walk through the streets, if you continue to give in to the gaze of the Takers, you will run out of things to give, and they will request to consume parts of your body. You will be completely incapable of telling them no, giving yourself away to the Takers as they feast upon your flesh, tendons, and organs, with a look of empty acceptance upon your teary-eyed face. Your means of escape can be found through looking into the horizon of the city. You will spot an impossibly tall tower that lies at the center of the Dead City. That is where you must move. Depending on your luck, you will either spawn far from the center, or fairly close to it. To deal with the Takers, you must either walk through the city without looking in their direction (Looking up at the sky is a fairly safe method, though the Takers may grow desperate and begin to harm you to force a wayward glance), or you must take a risk and barge into one of the many buildings, ransacking it for all of its things and moving forward. That way, should you ever accidentally find yourself glancing within their direction, you will have plenty of objects to give to them before reaching the center tower. Upon reaching the tower, your exit is as simple as opening the front door. You will be greeted by a look into the next layer, before passing through the doorway and continuing your journey. I6J
