LAYER 2: THE SCORCHING DESERT

You have dug through the depths of the Seascapes, and have surfaced on the next layer of the gauntlet: The Scorching Desert. You will spend the first thirty minutes coughing the water and mud out of your lungs, but after you finish gasping for air and recovering from the pain of suffocation, you will open your eyes and find yourself in a desert wasteland surrounded by miles upon miles of burning hot sand and structures built depicting God. As you soon recover from the cold waters of the seascape, you will quickly find yourself burning in the hateful heat of the sun and realize you need to find shade. You will first think to move towards the shadows of the structures for sanctuary, but as you move closer to the colossal pyramids, you will realize you must keep your distance. Within these spaces, many former travelers of the Inferno such as yourself have been captured and put to work for the rest of eternity building the pyramids. They, however, are not a threat to be wary of. Rather, it is those that have put them to work that you must avoid. o9k

The Managers, unlike the Sirens of the first layer of the Inferno, will not attempt to deceive you with flattery or friendly gestures. They are always hostile, and upon noticing you they will give chase and attempt to catch you. Their bodies have been mutated to make them run faster on the sand than you can. If they reach you, they will begin to whip you with their left arm, which takes shape as a snake head attached to a long, slender body. The snake will bite you, injecting you once more with a powerful venom which will cause you to writhe in agony for hours, and begin to mutate you. You will be forced into labor like the rest of the travelers that came before you, and any attempt to take a break will result in another whipping. You will be forever enslaved, forced to build more structures to lure more unsuspecting travelers towards the group. E3r

Escaping this layer means travelling to the very edge of the desert itself. You will see mountains in the distance, and are to navigate towards them, even as you begin to cook in the heat of the desert sun. Rest assured, once you reach the edge of the desert, a cavern will reveal itself to you, granting you safe passage to the next layer of The Inferno, and a quick place to rest after all of the walking in heat you've done. After catching your breath and cooling down, you will move further into the cavern, descending into darkness before spotting a light at the end of the tunnel. Move through the light to reach the next layer. I7o
